What is Ovulation Calculator?

Ovulation is the release of a mature egg from the ovary. It occurs approximately 12–16 days before the start of the next period, regardless of cycle length. The fertile window — when pregnancy is possible — spans about 6 days: the 5 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself.

Sperm can survive inside the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days. An egg is viable for only 12–24 hours after release. This makes tracking ovulation crucial for couples trying to conceive.

Why does this matter?

Understanding your ovulation cycle helps you identify your peak fertility days, time intercourse strategically for conception, and recognize any cycle irregularities that might indicate hormonal issues worth discussing with a doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get pregnant outside the fertile window?

It is very unlikely but not impossible. Sperm can survive up to 5 days and cycle timing varies. No method of natural family planning is 100% reliable. Use appropriate contraception if avoiding pregnancy.

Irregular cycles make ovulation prediction less reliable. Common causes include PCOS, thyroid disorders, and extreme exercise or weight changes. OPKs or monitoring by a gynecologist are better options for irregular cycles.

Only in women with a perfect 28-day cycle. Ovulation day = Cycle Length − 14. So in a 32-day cycle, ovulation is around day 18. In a 24-day cycle, around day 10.

If you are under 35 and have been trying for 12 months (or over 35 and trying for 6 months), consult a fertility specialist. Both partners should be evaluated, as male and female factors are equally common.
